​​Eric Leighton was born in1921. Chorlton, Lancashire. He joined up on the 18/11/1937.
He was then posted to the Loyals (1st Bn) probably at Tidworth and would of been with them at Dunkirk and possibly served with them in 1942 & 1943. It seems that he was then was posted with the 10th Battalion, which was renumbered the 2nd after their capture of the 2nd battalion at Singapore. the new 2nd then went onto Italy and was envolved in various battles including the action at Monte Grande. As far as we know Eric was a Sniper during his service in the war. After Italy and the end of the war where & who he served with is not known yet, He finished his service on 01/09/1946 with (section B Army Reserve) His service records have been ordered to confirm all these details and all present infomation has been researched via the

                                                                                 Monte Grande.
In November the 1st Loyals were moved to the massive Monte Grande feature where for the next two months, under difficult winter conditions, they resisted a series of determined enemy attacks. In April 1945 the resuscitated 2nd Loyals (formerly the 10th), who had arrived in theatre in December 1944, also defended Monte Grande before the final collapse of the German forces in Italy.
